Members of the department of Mathematical Sciences at Bath visited Mexico as part of a University delegation from 18-26 April 2015. Andreas Kyprianou, Paul Milewski, Susie Douglas, Kirill Cherednichenko, Karim Anaya-Izqueirdo and Gavin Shaddick represented the different research and educational interests of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. There are traditionally strong research links between Mathematical Sciences and Mexico, particularly with Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM) and Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT).

Staff and students attended a series of mathematical seminars and talks at both institutions about SAMBa and the Department during the week.

There were also a lot of discussions with academics, administrative staff and students about future joint activities, which has led to a lot of exciting things to look forward to, including another trip to Mexico in November where Bath students will help support a workshop being delivered by Gavin Shaddick and Jim Zidek from the University of British Columbia on Big Data in the Environment. This will be followed by a conference for PhD students from Bath, CIMAT and UNAM.

There are plans for a number of student exchanges as well as the growth of research activity between the institutions. A return delegation from CIMAT plans to visit Bath later in the year and a number of individuals from both UNAM and CIMAT will be visiting the University as part of a visitor programme through the new Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation.
