Threshold phenomena in spectral analysis and their applications to waves and tectonics (UMAR & IIMAS-UNAM)

The event consist of two parts: the school in UMAR, Huatulco on 12-15 July 2022 and the workshop in IIMAS, UNAM, Mexico City on 18-22 July 2022. The meeting will focus on new mathematical approaches to the threshold phenomena in spectral analysis and scattering theory, as well as their applications to wave propagation. These include the behaviour under perturbations of eigenvalues embedded in continuous spectra of operators, homogenisation of differential equations with periodic coefficients (describing composite media with moderate as well as high contrast between components), and the spectral analysis of thin and laminated structures. Throughout the workshop, analytical techniques will be discussed in the context of modelling seismic phenomena, through the analysis of tectonic plate motion in the vicinity of contact discontinuities and its effect on the displacement of the earth's surface.
